Meantime . . . .

158283722I am on a friend’s computer, and thought I would post from here. We are needing to replace the breaker box in order to have things back to normal, so it may be a while before I can post regularly again. In the interim, I have been reading for the pure fun of it. Some mind candy that may or may not be particularly “healthy” but is certainly a fun read. Right now I am going through the Dresden Files, Jim Butcher’s tales of a white wizard in modern Chicago. The stories are fun, and his portrayal of Harry as a wizard going against the main stream of thought in the “wizarding community” are actually, as with all good storytellers, character studies of a man whose life is nothing but test after test of his mettle, so to speak.

Harry is a wizard who got off to a poor start to begin with. His mother was aligned with the murky forces of dark magic, his father a stage magician. He attempts to live a life doing good amidst all manner of  temptations to turn to black magic in a modern world that doesn’t even believe magic is “real”. The struggles are set in a world of fantasy, the character development of the wizard, however, is the study of any human being caught in a continual loop of adversity. The things that make the read pure fun, and still a study of spiritual paths, per se, is Butcher’s continuous explanations of Harry’s perspectives.

He is dealing with being on the outer rim of everything. He cannot lead a so called normal life, after all he really is a wizard, yet, he stukeleys_druidis beginning to learn, slowly, that the mother who died giving him birth was aligned with the murkier side of things, and that he was apparently intended to practice that way as well, since he wishes to do good, he is caught in a crack. The “good guys” don’t trust him, he has already used magic to destroy his teacher who was trying to enthrall him. This is an infraction of the “First Law of Magic”. The “bad guys” want him, but he does not want them. The temptation is to either go dark, get out, or sit down and cover his eyes and ears. What a life!

Butcher addresses many things that seem to have filtered into our world as misconceptions through the misunderstanding of what is in the realm of Spirit. Things like demons. Most true demons don’t know and don’t care about humans. Much, indeed, that is harmful to humans in that realm really doesn’t bear humanity distinct malignant will. The forces and entities that reside in that realm are busy tearing, destroying, and just being, where they are. Even much that is beautiful and “Good” does not have a direct bearing on humans, and may, indeed, be too powerful or too “wild” to be part of the world of humanity. The clash most often comes when a human draws one of them into our world thinking they can control the demon and use it’s power to get what they want without having to earn it the hard way. When those forces are unleashed into a vulnerable world, things get a bit shaky. Seldom are they as dramatic as one sees in the Dresden Files, but that is usually what has happened, nevertheless.

sn1987a_nasaThe problem, unfortunately, that has plagued us for most of the time humankind has been on this planet is the egocentricity of our understanding of the world at large. It usually isn’t really all about us, we just think it is. Even our concept of G-d comes from that egocentric place. It is an afront to most people’s beliefs that G-d isn’t even all about us. There is much of G-d’s perspective that has absolutely nothing to do with the creation of those humans on the planet Earth. Are we important to G-d, oh, I think so, but then, I believe all life is important to G-d, and I think G-d is big enough to handle it all, it’s just that we often do not live up to our highest potential and attempt to blame that on G-d, mom, or the neighbor. Sorry, folks, we are responsible for who we are and what we do. Painful though that truth may be. I’d much rather be able to blame someone else for my faults, but I suspect they are mine, and I will have to answer for them in the end. Dang the bad luck!

Holy Writ ~

hh-tenzin-gyatsoI have read the Christian Bible more than 4 times through, and have read the New Testament so many times I have lost count. I have copies of the Tanakh, the Bhagavad-Gita, the Quran, and books written by HH Tenzin Gyatso, the current Dalai Lama. I respect the writers as men whose dedication to holy living was born out in their lives. I tend to give weight to the words written by the level of holiness that was evident in the lives they lived. Erego, I place greatest weight on the words of his Holiness, the Dalai Lama, as a living example of compassion in action.

Even here, though he is reckoned the 14th incarnation of Avalokitesvara, the Buddha of Compassion, I do not consider him infallible. He comes far closer to infallibility than do I, who am a simple woman of faith residing in the US. He is not God incarnate, nor does he claim to be. He is a human being, enlightened, to be sure, but a human being. What he shows is that Holy Writ, good as it is for guidance and instruction, is written by men who may be inspired by the Holy Presence, but they are still men and their words must be weighed in that light.

The books I have that he has written are in English, and this is my point regarding Holy Writ from any source, I must presume upon the good intent of the translators of his work. This is easier to do when the writer is living, and has loyal helpers who will let him know if a mistranslation has skewed his meaning on any teaching. When the writer is long since passed on, there is no such safety line.

Y’shua cannot stand up in an assembly and say, “That is not what I said or 1_robetaught.” At least not with any legitimate verity, as even one who would say they represent him is representing their vision of Him. I do not trust the machinations of humans who have done little in their lives to sort their “impressions” from objective truth. Constantine has been called a saint by many, but I do not trust the “vision” of a conqueror who chooses to use the teachings of a peaceful rabbi to enhance his position as a head of state, consolidating his kingdom by making Christianity the state religion.

Many of Y’shua’s teachings resemble the Buddha’s, enough so that I question the veracity of those statements that seem to claim Godhood beyond the Godhood of all sentient beings, and because of the way Aramaic is written, and the way Y’shua could easily have spoken of the Ruach Ha-Kodesh, I believe his words have been skewed.

I believe Moshe’s words are pretty much intact, as they were in the keeping of his kinsmen for generations after his passing. I believe Buddha’s teachings are intact also, because there was no great upheaval where his words were removed from the hands of his students and “sorted” by some great “council” of men seeking to justify the position of a monarch.

zoo_2_bg_072603The best any one person can ask of any version of Holy Writ is that it be consistent to the principles of truth and compassion. Any time that consistency is lacking, I will question the source of the teaching. By the way, the Buddha gave that as one of the criteria for knowing whether your teacher was representing the teachings truthfully, his words were to obey the teaching, not the earth bound teacher. I wish that had been passed down from Y’shua, for I am certain that somewhere and at some time he said that, though, of course, if his teachings have been so completely tampered with as I believe, why should I believe those words were not simply deleted?

The Spectrum ~

Since I have been blogging for the past couple of days on the colors we can see in the rainbow, I found this wonderful graphic at a classroom on the web. I couldn’t resist posting it and it’s connection, since it demonstrates so fully what I have been addressing on several levels. We can see so little of the spectrum that it is amazing to me that those who address the spiritual like to  sound like they know all about it. I have to tell you, again, I do not.

I can only speak of what I have experienced and learned, but like the electromagnetic spectrum above, there is no one who can see beyond a certain level, so don’t let anyone try to convince you they can! We can experiment, we can hypothesize, we can guess all day. We may even end up quite close to the way it truly is on the other side.

There are those who are gifted with a type of second sight, some, like myself have a gift of “knowing”, I do not know where it comes from, but there are times (and not on demand, folks, so I can’t go on TV and make a bundle of your money) when I will know things about others that I could not have known by ordinary means. Believe me, that isn’t always a comfortable thing, and I wouldn’t recommend trying to acquire such a “gift” because there are definitely times you learn things you would just as soon not know.

The Key thing to remember, and I have told those I have mentored this one thing many times, please remember, everything a person “knows” or learns, whether by ordinary means such as conversation, or TV, or reading, or through non-ordinary means like clair-whatever, everything, comes through the filters of that person’s personality and knowledge base! This is why you must be wary of any information you receive this way. It doesn’t matter who it is, if their information does not coincide with specific principles, they are “off mark”. No, I don’t think they or I deserve death, but I prefer such people quit acting as though they own knowledge you can’t get.

First of all, you can get such knowledge. The Buddhists teach their monks the disciplines that awaken that part of who we are so that the monks of their “orders” experience the sensory breakthroughs. The thing most commendable about Buddhism is that it is disciplined and it is known the level of commitment of the individual before they are taught such things. Yes, even then, there are those that turn toward darkness, but that is not something that can be helped, there is an old cliché, “Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely.”

This is one of the reasons that you will seldom find a Buddhist that will try to lead thousands to Nirvana, they know the hours of study and dedication it takes to work in that direction. They also know one other key thing that seems to get lost among Evangelicals, those with greatest humility will be those with greatest power.

Second of all, you can know the principles so that such people can not fool you! One of the first things to remember is that, if it is not of Love, it is not from those who serve Hashem. If such people show any tendency to bring harm then do not follow their way, follow the principles, not the person. Y’shua gave you those principles, they were deliberately mistranslated so that they would not be readily understood as principles, but they are there nevertheless.

They are the beatitudes. These are what each and every person who claims to follow the teachings of the Rabboni should without question be doing. If you see signs that another is not following these principles Do Not Follow Them! Do not condemn them, do not fuss at them, just do not follow them. You can pray with them, you can worship with them, just do not depend on their guidance for anthing that is important to your spiritual path.

The First Principle ~

1) Creator is Love. The Song of Love, with its melodies, and harmonies, is the expression of the Will and Mind of Creator, who is the Original Source of Life.

The Principles I have listed here at this site were given to me by Spirit for my protection. I have said before that I hear voices, some high, some low, and I cannot always tell the difference. The principles allow me to progress through life without being swayed by the low ones into acting in ways that I would later regret. You would think that the Mosaic Decalogue or 10 commandments would do that, but they are actually a skeleton of a much larger system, and one needs to know the entire system for them to work at keeping one out of trouble.

It is difficult to know how to describe the principles as compared to the commandments, though, perhaps they are the cells that make up the bones and muscles of the body of information that one needs in order to serve the highest and best. Take, for instance, the first Principle that I have listed above. Compare it to Moshe’s first command. The Principle tells you that God is Love, therefore, Moshe’s command to love Hashem with all your heart, and every breath you breathe is not difficult, it is a delight, for you know that you are loved first, and loving back is seldom difficult.

You also begin to understand that the breeze flowing though the trees, and the sound of the crickets in the grass or the animals on the plains, are themselves the sounds of Creator’s love coming toward you from the woods and the grasses. It is as you realize this that you begin to understand that Hashem is not “Out there” looking at you from afar, but right here with you, loving you with every puff of breath that keeps you alive.

Because of the gentleness of the breezes, you begin to realize that, though there is much in the Universe that is too great to understand for a human, and the winds blow much too harshly during a hurricane for a human to stand in the way, there are breezes that nourish as well. There is music in the Universe that is gentle enough for a human to survive and thrive if we will learn to get out of the way when the big winds blow.

If we will begin to pay attention, we can also learn here that the source of our own lives is the source of all life, and that there is much in the Universe that has nothing to do with us. I know this means becoming aware that the entire Universe is not about us, necessarily, but about life in abundance and that, rather than our mission being to “take over” the Universe from Hashem, as we have for generations thought and acted, perhaps our mission is to learn to live in balance with the other life forms that Creator has made and placed here.

Perhaps, in fact, we have been singing the wrong song, what if we were supposed to be singing a song of love, and we have been singing a song of conquest?
