The Promise of the Rainbow ~

rainbow2There is just something so uplifting and beautiful about a rainbow. I remember as a child oohing and ahing, and still do so when I see a particularly bright one or a complete one. They are gorgeous. When I went to Sunday school and learned that that was G-d’s promise that the earth would not be drowned again, but burned next time, I was thrilled, there was a reason to love the rainbow as much as I did. The Bible would have you believe that the rainbow did not exist before then, or I should say my Sunday school teachers, as I recall, the Bible says nothing one way or the other. A large part of my heart fears that’s just another lie, though there is this little corner that sort of wishes the statement were true, since it would mean that the communications from G-d that each of us gets might have a source other than somewhere inside us.spectrum

Whether it is G-d’s promise of no more mass drowning of the world or not, it “feels” like a promise from Hashem. There is this sense of inclusiveness about the rainbow, it includes all the colors we can see. Now that we know through science that there are most likely many more colors that our eyes cannot see, one wonders just how big a rainbow really is. But that is just my silly mind wandering off on one of it’s tangents. The point I was writing about has more to do with that feeling of “promise” I was talking about.

The sciences have shown us clues for many years now, that the basis for many of our traits is in our genetic make-up. What it seems to be showing is not that genomeour “fate” is pre-written, but that our reactions to events are somewhat pre-ordained. Now, personally, I believe that there are many things we can choose to live above. Do I believe that is easy? No! But there are many who are unable to feel empathy toward others of our kind, yet do not go out and murder dozens of their fellows, and until we understand the mechanism that drives those toward murder that do commit it, we are not going to be any closer to living free of that horror than we are today.

But, there are other things where our genetic make-up may indeed lead us to possibilities that are not necessarily “right” or “wrong”. When the imperative of the species was to pro-create, I can accept the idea that Hashem might have indeed said, “Go forth and multiply”. The Earth had plenty of space for all. As medicine has given us longer lives and more live births, I cannot accept that that genetic imperative is there any longer if Hashem truly wants us to live and be free to enjoy the bounty of the earth.

Indeed, I do not believe that it is. There are many couples choosing not to have children. Other couples of the same gender stay together out of caring for one another, not an imperative to have children. This is not just in one area of the world, it is all over the world, where people are too crowded to live healthy lives, including our own cities. I am aware that most people do not like to be compared to the “lower” animals, (so maybe they are glad of that, ’cause we don’t make that great a contribution to the well-being of their living space either.) but we are all here, and we all share the earth!

prismaspirianWhoa, that came around to my point almost as if I’d planned it that way. To me, that is where the rainbow is both a promise and a command. We are all here together, whether green (plant life), blue (some insects and birds), two-legged(most of the other colors), purple (flowers), we are here in the same eco-system, we must learn to work together to survive, and if we do learn that little trick, if we learn to work in harmony, we’ll fit together like the colors of the rainbow. In learning to honor our selves, we’d learn to honor Hashem, and, oh, I think Y’shua and Buddha taught that long before we came along.

Green ~

We have spoken in passing about color having energy that is the frequency of the color as it is. I want to talk about some of the colors and how they affect me, not as a be all end all answer for any one else, but as a means of checking what they do to each of us, by what they do to each other.

I am absolutely in Looooove with most green colors. There are some, those associated with babies and diapers, that are not among my favorites, but the fresh greens of leaves in spring, and sunshine on grass, those greens are almost literally heart refreshing for me. I never knew how much they were a necessary part of my everyday life until I tried to live for a year in New Mexico. I enjoyed the people, and lived near the Rio Grande in Albuquerque, but it was not the same as northern Indiana. I am now residing in southern Texas, still green, as we are only about 100 miles from the Gulf, but not the same as Indiana, I miss my home. In Googling green, these are some of the things that come up ~

Green is the color that is at the level of the heart chakra, and is considered a “nourishing” color, yes, it is the color of the veggies, so that is a bit of a pun, but there seems more to it than that, It stands for life and renewal: it is a restful color and the “cleaner” greens when coupled with blue can very much denote balance, as in nature. Used with it’s complementary color red, it is associated with Christmas, (which reminds me . . . . . . .)

Green is considered an optimistic color, full of hope and healing. Spiritually, this is considered the color of unconditional love, forgiveness and compassion. These are the keywords associated with the color green: Growth, fertility, harmony, healing, refreshing, peaceful, contentment, satisfaction, confidence,  money, prosperity, hope,  luck,  beauty, balance, self respect, learning.

Worthy of note, when speaking of green there are strong negatives as well as positives, as one can be green with envy, and jealousy is one of the strongest of negative emotions, though of course, that would not be a “clean” green, but one that looked muddy or drab, or even phosphorescent. I was going to chat about all the colors, but maybe I will speak of each of the colors of the rainbow seperately.

From Wikipedia ~

Green is a color, the perception of which is evoked by light having a spectrum dominated by energy with a wavelength of roughly 520–570-nm. In the subtractive color system, it is not a primary color, but is created out of a mixture of yellow and blue, or yellow and cyan; it is considered one of the additive primary colors. On the HSV color wheel, the complement of green is magenta; that is, a purple color corresponding to an equal mixture of red and blue light. On a color wheel based on traditional color theory (RYB), the complementary color to green is considered to be red.[6]

Culturally, green has broad and sometimes contradictory meanings. In some cultures, green symbolizes hope and growth, while in others, it is associated with death, sickness, envy or the devil. The most common associations, however, are found in its ties to nature. For example, Islam venerates the color, as it expects paradise to be full of lush greenery. Green is also associated with regeneration, fertility and rebirth for its connections to nature. Recent political groups have taken on the color as symbol of environmental protection and social justice, and consider themselves part of the Green movement, some naming themselves Green parties. This has led to similar campaigns in advertising, as companies have sold green, or environmentally friendly, products.

The word green is closely related to the Old English verb growan, “to grow”. It is used to describe plants or the ocean. Sometimes it can also describe someone who is inexperienced, jealous, or sick. In America, green is a slang term for money, among other things. Several colloquialisms have derived from these meanings, such as “green around the gills”, a phrase used to describe a person who looks ill.

Several minerals have a green color, including the emerald, which is colored green by its chromium content. Animals such as frogs, lizards, and other reptiles and amphibians, fish, insects, and birds, appear green because of a mixture of layers of blue and green coloring on their skin. By far the largest contributor to green in nature is chlorophyll, the chemical by which plants photosynthesize. Many creatures have adapted to their green environments by taking on a green hue themselves as camouflage.

No. 12, spirals and lines ~

12) Harmony is attained through the Sacred Spiral. Linear thinking cannot achieve balance.

I thought at one time that I understood this principle clearly, though I am not so certain now, that I do. The Sacred Spiral has come to mean so many things to me, not all of them having to do with our journey through this life. The DNA comes to mind, first of all when one thinks of the Sacred Spiral, also the Fibonacci Spiral which expands in “squares” of the number, so prevalent in nature. The spiral is how our planets move through space, and our galaxies. So the principle may have more to do with how the Creator put us all in motion than how we will get to a place of harmony, except that, moving at all in this universe is sort of by spiral, when you think of the planet’s movement as you cross the street. Be careful, the very thought can make a person dizzy.

When contemplating the Circle of 5ths in music, the means whereby harmony is part of the entire composition, it is not difficult to grasp that the spiral is needed to create harmony, but then, that would mean that we would need to understand ourselves more completely as musical instruments being constantly tuned, than even as humans. I wonder, though, if that, indeed, is what we are; Instruments with free will, able to play whatever music we choose, and only really sounding “good” when we sing the song we were designed to sing. I don’t know, but that would mean that we would need to treat ourselves much differently from birth to death, would it not? The body is a musical instrument, and we need to keep it clean and practice the music often. Hm.

Yet, when one thinks of linear thinkers, one is put in mind of soldiers or mathematicians, who must think in terms of events and causation. Superb quality to have, linear thought, in context. Then why would it not lead to harmony? Mm, perhaps this addresses, then, the flexibility of musical improv as opposed to the regimentation of an entire flank of soldiers. That would make a bit more sense. One can be fully improvisational in music and remain in harmony, “key” with the piece one is playing, yet, if one attempted that kind of improvisation with most mathematical equations, I cannot perceive of anything other than gobbledegook.

OK, I can see that, we must remain flexible and able to move lightly and with grace if we are to remain in harmony with the whole. One soldier, given the music and a pretty girl, can dance rather well, if given the right circumstance, but it is not easy for an entire regiment to dance to the music, eh? (but, even in math, there is room for harmony, look at that spiral, knowing that what fibonacci used to explain it was indeed mathematical in nature.) This will take some more thought. Please add yours if you wish!

Principle number 10 ~

10) Eternal harmony will be achieved through balance. The human is the only creature that loses its part of the Song shortly after birth. It is the human animal that has thrown this part of the Universe out of balance.

Have you ever thought about the “cost” of free will? Or even about the fact that, for most people the “group” sort of thought that we are told is automatic within a hive, is foreign to a human? Much of Science Fiction is predicated on attempts to get into that sort of thinking and working with it as the premise for at least a short story line, if not the whole of some person’s life. But, freewill has actually cost the human being the ability to relate to the whole in a manner that sets one’s own “self” aside for the betterment of all, very seldom can we do it.

Yet, it is our grasp of our ability to decide individually whether we will wear a tie, or go chez casuale, that lets us be the “person” we choose to be. Here, though, there is cause to stop and take a look at this wonderful “gift”, for more than one man has written about the struggles to do what is desired only to fall back on an “older” version of “self” that is more willfull and and less “enlightened”.

See the New Testament book, Romans, chapters 5,6, &7. This is the writing of Paul, the converted, who had slain so many Christians in his zeal to serve Hashem. When he was converted, he decided that instead of bringing Gentiles into the fold, he would keep them at bay and breed a hatred of the parent faith in them, which is part of the reason I so dislike calling him a saint. He also is often called an apostle, by his own pen, which implies he walked at Y’shua’s side during his time of teaching, a flat out preverication. I am quite familiar with his works, but refuse to venerate him as “above” others in spirituality.

It is, in fact, the very attempt at “group think” that passes for doctrine and dogma that is the reason I do not call myself an out and out Christian. I do indeed love Y’shua’s teachings, and follow them as closely as any, but the “church” attempts to make it as though those who do not see Y’shua through Paul’s eyes are apostate and wicked. Well, I guess that makes me apostate and wicked. I will celebrate.

Sadly, here, one comes up against the very comment of this principle, that harmony needs to be acheived through balance. This can only happen when the humans who count themselves as leaders quit trying to do our thinking for us. They may influence, they may speak, but do not insist that I must choose not to think on my own. If you want a clone, go ahead, make one, we have the technology. Just move along and let others attempt to follow the light while you follow your own dark trail. When the preachers and the mullahs and the evangelists begin to take their lessons from the Rabboni, and understand that the nourishment that leads to harmony comes from Spirit, not man, we may make progress on this particular principle.

The 7th ~

7) Harmony and Balance are the keys to Life. Everything evolves by seeking balance with everything else.

Google harmony and balance and you will find all manner of wonderful esoteric studies and plans to help you find an inner balance. There is very little said, at least on the web regarding the scientific observation that nature in her own right, is always seeking balance in the ecosphere of our very own planet. Look at the stars and the galaxies, and you will see much that would indicate that all move toward finding that balance just to exist. One wonders why our Creator would choose to make this a goal rather than the natural way of things. Yet, all creatures seem caught in a balance wheel seeking the way of harmony.

We are incited by many Holy Books to believe that the Universe was once in balance and something knocked it for a loop. The are those who teach that man is the one who knocked things out of balance and others who teach that it happened much earlier in time and space than the point at which we came onboard as a species. There are even teachings that we were created to try to help put things back in balance, (whooo, that failed badly if that was the case!) However, no matter which origin stories you hold dear, it remains that our world’s dynamic is to seek balance, it is, then, this balance that supports life on Terra.

Saddest, however, is that we humans seem to have lost the natural grasp of balance, if we ever had it, and now must find our way to living our lives in a manner that seeks balance in even the smallest things, such as how much food to take into our bodies, and how much sleep to get in a 24 hour period in order to stay at optimum for as long as possible. As we move from an agrarian society through mechanics into a technical society we find we must teach ourselves much about how to maintain the simple balances of eating, breathing and sleeping.

In order to grow in spirit, we also need to learn how to maintain a balance in life. It is easy for the ascetic to have the wonderful mountain top experience and “find God” there. It is not so easy to maintain that sense of the divine in the traffic patterns on Monday morning. Yet, G-d is not distant when we are in traffic, in fact, unless I am mistaken, the Angels that guard us are more present there than on the mountaintop. I hope so, we certainly need them.

If I understand Spirit correctly, here, it is not on the mountain top that we grow, it is in the valley, in the traffic that we are stretched and pulled in order to remain calm and cheerful in the midst of anger and futility on the part of those with whom we travel. One of the toughest points of balance is the one that applies internally, learning to be less harsh with ourselves will help us to be more compassionate with others.

No. 6

6) Harmony results in maximum efficiency with minimum effort. When it is a strain to sing in harmony with the Universal Energies, there are blockages within your Spirit.

This one, sadly, is only logical, and we all know this from experience. When there is no harmony it is because someone is hurting or causing hurt to another. Often the one who is causing the hurt is responding to past pain. Now realize, please, that, though I am in sympathy with all who hurt, I also feel that one can choose not to continue to pass along the pain to others.

I am fully aware that when the sociopathy that is caused by early abuse has resulted in a lack of empathy for others that the results are often disastrous, as these are the folks who can kill in multiples without conscience. I do hope that somewhere in the future we can find a way to compassionately deal with the problem, some way, perhaps to screen for it, and keeping some sort of restriction regarding weapons on those who have this disorder.

Even that sounds unfair since I am speaking of restricting a person before they have committed a crime, but, quite often, we do not know this disorder has surfaced in a person until they have killed several and are on the run from the law. It would somehow seem at least a bit more compassionate to restrict before so many were injured. There is no simple solution for our lawmakers or our lawkeepers. However, once one has been found to have such tendencies, yet has not committed murder, would this not be the time to begin treatment? So much less damage to other humans would result if we could but tell who has such problems before things completely erupted.

One of the most discouraging things among us humans is that there are times in our history when foolish thinking men and women believe they can force harmony by “killing” off a section of the population, as did Hitler, Stalin and Housein. The backlash of pain and misery that follows such horror puts us that much further from true harmony. This is why they must be stopped, and as often as possible, early enough in their careers to keep them from harming multitudes.

So, here we are, knowing that harmony is a wonderful state where we would all like to live, and yet, also knowing that such a state is most probably mythical until all humans make the decision to seek balance within themselves. For this inner state of being cannot be forced. You cannot put a swastika on a flag, and march the children up and down the boulevard in brown shirts and attain harmony, you will not even attain military harmony with such, only ultimately, chaos, as the human soul also needs freedom.

Is there any way, then, to find a societal harmony that is free and truly harmonious? I don’t know, there are many who swear that Christianity was developed as a means of controlling the masses and bringing about that harmony. Yet, even here, there is fallacy. Christianity became a state religion under the warrior ruler, Constantine, and it’s constant answer to disharmony is war, what kind of answer is that?

There is no doubt in most of our minds that the solution is one of the spirit within, but religion seems more often a cause of dissension and pain than a cause for true celebration in harmony. Spiritual openness seems the only answer, but here, ooops, the governments have no control, as it is an individual response within rather than a group response without. There have been, in the last century, several experiments in governmental denial of spirit, most of those have collapsed.

Spirituality, in order to be real, must be within, yet this very thing frightens church leaders and heads of state alike, as, for whatever reason, there is no trust of Creator’s capacity to create a true peace within the human soul. Hm, it may just be our last resort.

5th Principle

5) Everything has its own vibration. When you were born, you had already a song of your own, your expression of the Song of Love. It is the same for all life. Each has its own expression. Even so with plants, trees, rocks, clouds, water, earth; All Life.

You have your own song, sing it! This is why most often we see a personality coming out even in the tiniest baby. This little person is already very much carrying a tune of their own. We do not make them each individuals, they already are. What we do is add the various grace notes and new phrases to their repertoire so that, if we have done our job correctly, they may sing their own song more fully.

A parent does not give a child their personality, they have that already when born. However, a parent can influence very much how that personality interfaces with the society into which that child is born. Your child is the gift of the many generations both houses of mother and father combined with the love and care given by this set of parents. That makes child rearing an ever present challenge, since, as any good parent knows, no two children are alike. You simply can’t go by a previously given set of instructions.

However, if you think of your child as having their own music when they come to you, and think of your job as truly listening to hear their song, then help them tune it and fine tune it, the rewards for both child and parent will be immense. When we learn to have that kind of respect for each other, let alone the other life forms in the Universe, we may just begin to mature into the kind of enlightened beings that are capable of creating harmony and balance!
