Son of Man ~

jesus1Jesus called himself the Son of Man. No matter if you think he was the Son of God or a mature, evolved human being like the Buddha, his vision would have been expanded enough to see that you really can’t worship “other gods” if you are a compassionate being. You cannot worship GOD with evil deeds, nor can you worship darkness with good and compassionate deeds. ( first said, at least to my knowledge, by C. S. Lewis)

He didn’t mince around, he said love was the only commandment one had to obey, for everything written could be boiled down and summed up in that one command, love God, love your fellow man. If you truly love God, you will love his creation, both your fellow travelers and the earth that supports them. If you do not love, you will not be able to serve the highest and best there is for those that walk beside you.

He did NOT say, love only those who celebrate the eucharist, He did NOT say, love only those who are part of your worship group, he did NOT say, only love those who walk the way you do. He said LOVE, with a deep, from the very marrow of your being love. In the letter entitled First John, in Chapter 4, verses 7&8, we are told

Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

This is a beautiful understanding of the commandment to love, for in it we can see that it truly does not buddha90210matter whether a person calls themselves Buddhist, Christian, Jew, Muslim, Jain, or unbeliever, for if they love, they know God in their hearts, if they do not love, they do not know God. Yes, I know, that puts many who call themselves believers at risk, for love is the one commandment that many have not learned to obey, yet, it is the only commandment given.Truly, if you have learned this one command and obey it as often as you are able, you are my brother or sister, for we are children of God.

There are many in our time that have shown that though Moses understanding of God was great, and even ahead of his time, it was not perfected. He did not understand that slavery was wrong, he did not understand how very wrong rape was, he did not even have a clue that child harm was so very wrong. So, though we can admire him for being ahead of his time, and so close to God, we cannot stay at his level of understanding and claim that that way is complete. We must move forward, we must learn to love, we must come to understand that the way of love will not hold others as chattel. They are human beings. We must give others the same rights and privileges we hold for ourselves.

dnacadueceusPart of that understanding is the principle behind the words “first do no harm”. If there is a way of life that is foreign to you, but harms no one, then it is not “sin”, if it indeed brings about love, and is a good thing in that community, we must hold it to be in obedience to the command to love. We cannot hold ourselves over others as their keepers or jailers, we must let others be free to learn to obey the command in their own way. We must learn to love, not just in part, but completely, as God would have us love.

God of Love ~

Those that need to think that God is real (I number among them) have many reasons for this need. My own is that I hear voices and see things that sometimes are not there to others. That can be pretty scary. I came to the conclusion a long time ago that the only way I was going to be able to cope with it all was to find a bottom line, and stay there. It is through that storm that I came to see that even though the many forms of faith have a lot of differences, there were a couple of things they had in common. The differences are unimportant to me, the things they held in common, a call to live compassionately, forgiving others as quickly as possible, were the things that seemed destined to help me cope.

Many times, as I read the Old Testament, as well as the New, I find myself shaking my head in wonderment that a True God could have been perceived to be so tribal. Yet, we must remember that Moses, and Father Abraham were tribal above all, and would have seen God in this same reference. You see, that seems to always have been a problem. It is difficult to see an entity as existing beyond the bounds of our own individual experience. Yet, I want to be fair here. The books in the Old Testament are not the complete version, there were many books left out, because they seemed not to have anything to do with Jesus Christ, and were therefore, ignored. The shame comes in the fact that in those books that were left out, a quite larger view of God comes to light. It is somewhat startling, but some of the mystics could envision a God that was big enough to have made the Universe. Now that is where I can say I could join them.

Here, I am going to irritate some of the “faithful” for I do not believe in war. In fact, I believe that war is failure. We were given language and tongues. We can talk, and we can reason, and we should be able to negotiate. Any time we resort to shooting each other, we have failed at negotiations. I am well aware that this world has been overridden with a need for power that seems to trump all other considerations. I do not, however, believe that the God I worship caused this. This is a man made problem, and man needs to solve it. Soon!

In fact, it is this need for power that has caused not only war, but some very personal crimes that are none of which, like war, have been recognized in the Book as crimes. So, what can this list entail? Well, there is war, the wanton shooting of other humans who do not agree with us; there is slavery, often in the past ages the taking of people from among those defeated in war for personal pleasure, be that sexual in nature, or work related in helping us become wealthy; there is also rape, the overpowering of one person by another for sexual gratification, (YUCK!) ; then there is child slavery and molestation. I don’t personally believe there was ever an instance where GOD declared war on any of us. NOT in the Old Testament, NOT in the New, Not in any document from the Quran to the Baghavadgita. God didn’t choose war, our ancestors did, and they were not Holy in their intent. Ever. So, that is a list of power crimes, not complete, I suspect there are more that have not come to mind, but that is a list that must be recognized by our current leaders as a list of things that MUST be stopped before we can even begin to build a civilization that will bring about peace on Earth.

Many look for a messiah, some think he has come in the nature of one Jesus Christ. I don’t believe that was the case. OK I know y’all are gonna slam me for this one, but the human race is just now beginning to recognize power crimes for what they are, and we are not ready for the messiah; Jesus, either as a conglomerate of teachers and rabbis, or as a single person, would have only been the forerunner, setting the stage for what yet is to come. We haven’t yet gotten to a point where the compassion both he and the Buddha have called for from the enlightened is present in a majority of the people. We are a long way from even beginning to enter such an age. We aren’t even close.

I, personally, believe that only when we as an entire race of beings can get to a point where the only God we would even consider worth worshiping would be a God of love and compassion, will we be ready for a time of peace and prosperity, for only when that includes everyone, will it be true.

Choose, but choose wisely ~

Rape

It’a all about the right of the woman to choose whether she will carry the child within her that will remind her, possibly for years to come, of the most traumatic incident in her life. Emotions boil over on this topic and it is often difficult to see the real issues for all the steam we produce. I stated in this debate, that one of the things that bothers me about a man speaking out on rape with any positive twist may indicate that that man has himself raped and is rationalizing in his own mind a heinous act that should receive the death penalty. However, if we look at all the permutations of the act of rape, we might find that few men would survive. Many men do not believe that women mean no when they say no. And women are pounded by guilt if their bodies respond with orgasm when the sex is against their will.

I must say that just because you know someone who is the product of rape whose life has been positive, does not mean that all children of rape will be able to rise above the trauma of this type of conception. Neither you nor I are in a position to judge. Compassion for the woman would give her the option of choosing whether to carry this fetus to term. In fact, the very option of being able to choose may be the positive turn of events that will allow her to carry the child of trauma without her own feelings reflecting on the development of the fetus.

Studies have shown in the past that a mother’s rejection of the fetus in utero reflects on that child’s ability to learn and live a life that is productive. That being the case, do we want to force a woman to bring a child into the world she cannot by the very nature of it’s traumatic conception, accept? To so force the issue may be doing both the child and the mother a grave disservice. All factors considered, the right of the mother to choose whether she will carry the fetus to term is paramount. We need to let her choose what she will do.

Rape is Rape ~

Teen mom’s struggle to keep the rapist from seeing the resulting child!
I have stated my opinion on abortion being a choice. This is what I was talking about. This child (emphasize child) chose to keep her baby that resulted from rape by a 20 year old. Bless her heart for being this brave. This should NOT result in the rapist being able to stay in her life as a result of her choice!

Akin wants to call this a less than legitimate rape, perhaps, but, I do NOT! She was only 14 years old when she conceived the baby. What is the judicial system thinking in allowing the man who raped her to even consider that he might have a right to see this child? This is as though the Old Testament were still governing our perception of the young mother and her child. NO! NO! NO! He does NOT have the right to harass her for the rest of her life! Nor should she be punished for choosing the incredibly tough path of carrying her baby to term!

She is apparently fighting back, I hope she wins this battle. Rapists should never be given this kind of power in the lives of their victims! Rape is a power crime. Hence, every time he contemplates visiting her and her child, he contemplates the power this gives him in her life. This should NOT be! I do not care if there was violence in this crime or not, she says he threatened her, this makes it a power struggle. Compassion for the mother and her child would dictate that the rapist NEVER be allowed to be near her or her child. Gads! When does the torture end? Good luck, young lady, in your battle for your rights and your child’s right to live without fear!

Abortion~

I am not an advocate of abortion being used as a means of contraception. But I am an advocate for a woman being allowed to make her own choice regarding abortion. There is a reason for that. Though the fetus can and does develop cell memory, and can remember, therefore, being in the uterus, the spirit does not enter the body until the first breath is taken. Therefore, one is not committing murder until there is a living child.

There is a sense of the sacred with all of life, which is why I don’t necessarily believe that abortion should be any kind of wholesale answer to unwanted pregnancy. BUT, there are so many circumstances that call for the necessity of abortion for the sake of the sanity of the mother; too many children already living, the pregnancy being the result of forced sexual encounters (i.e. rape, and yes, if it’s forced on her, it’s rape, legitimate and real, no matter the means of the forcing!), whether the mother’s health will tolerate a full term pregnancy, the health of the growing fetus, yes, and there are other reasons abortion needs to remain an option for women in the prime of their lives.

I want to be clear as I can be that I do not consider this any kind of political issue. This should, first, last and always remain between a woman and her Doctor!  This should not be the choice of the Doctor, it should be his or her job to give clear and concise answers to the woman’s questions so that the woman can come to her own conclusions. We are talking about the woman’s body, therefore, whether to abort or carry the life within should be her choice.

I do NOT want politicians in this equation in any way. Most specifically because most politicians are male. No male has even a modicum of ability to understand the stresses of pregnancy and as they do not have the responsibility for carrying the fetus, they should not usurp the responsibility for the life of the fetus.

Then, there is the question of the life of the child once it is born. This is so completely disregarded by the politicians for whom an extra person in existence is just another vote. There is so little consideration for the health and well-being of the children on this planet that bringing in more is a question all responsible parents ask. Those who are that responsible generally practice some form of birth control, when they have a choice regarding sexual encounters. This should never have come into the political arena, and should be taken out of the political arena for the sake of all concerned! Only when we balance all factors can we consider ourselves to have reached any level of civilization.

Consent ~

One of my greatest pet peeves with Old Testament law is that rapists and pedophiles get a free ride to victimize women and children. If the rapist attacks a virgin, and tells her not to scream, she is put to death, and her rapist goes free, or gets to marry her and harass her for the rest of her life, Yeesh!  There is nothing in the Torah about pedophilia in any form, so I guess it’s ok to rape children all you want. No THANK YOU! Below is a partial list of things that will earn you death in Old Testament Law.

Sacrifice children to Molek

Cursing father or mother

Adulterer and adulteress

A man having sexual relations with his father’s wife, both shall be put to death

Having sexual relations with daughter in law, both shall be put to death

Men having sex with each other

Man marrying a woman and her mother

A woman having sex with an animal, both are to be put to death

A man or woman who is a medium or spiritist

Fornication

Anyone who blasphemes the name of the Lord shall be put to death

Murderers

A Rebellious Son

A woman who married with no proof of virginity, if her husband accuses her.

A raped virgin if she does not scream

Kidnapping a fellow Israelite

Working on the Sabbath

I have worked on the Sabbath, so I guess I have earned the death penalty, but rapists and pedophiles go unpunished. Does that sound like a set of laws you want to live with? I hope not, and it takes giving consent to have sexual relations completely out of the picture. If you are not married to a member of the opposite gender, you can’t have it, no way, no how. If you go ahead and have sex without the marriage license, you will be put to death. I, for one, am not prepared to live with such laws. I want serial rapists and pedophiles who rape children as part of their daily lives at least put in jail, if not put in the electric chair.

Oh, and just a thought, if you are a parent of a normal teen (rebellious, sometimes in the extreme), your child is under the death penalty. Do you want that? Think about that for a minute, it might be worth the trade off of letting rapists and pedophiles go unpunished to be able to have your child executed for telling you no consistently . . . . .no? I didn’t think so. Please consider what you are doing when you try to reinstate these laws in our society.

I prefer to live in a world where consent is the operative word, I hope you do as well, don’t try to force people to live with a law that does not even consider consent, or the ability to give it, as the primary reason something is considered right or wrong. We have grown as a people and have learned that if we value free will, there must be give and take, that should apply to everyone, not just a few.

Children

I have been watching SVU again. And, yes I know it’s fiction, but the producers are reminding us that perverts are out there. I think what sickens me most is that these guys think their actions are “normal”. How can they think that an action that requires the drugging of a victim is “normal”? The entire premise that children are forced to deal with an adult on any kind of sexual level is “normal” is enough to make a truly normal person vomit!

One of the things that says that we as human beings have grown in our understanding of what is right or wrong is that the ancient sacred texts did not even recognize rape of women and children as something that is so heinous that it should be punished. This is what must be brought to the attention of those who wave the Bible or any other sacred text around as a marker of how we should live in the here and now.

Consent, or even the ability to give consent should be the marker we look for in what we consider permissable in our actions with others. If the person you want to do anything with is not old enough or intelligent enough or indeed free to give consent to interacting with you, you arein the wrong place, committing a morally wrong action!

If you want to exert complete control of a situation, you are most likely going to find yourself in the wrong if it involves another person. One of the most sacred gifts our creator has given us is free will. If your actions take that free will from another human, you are doing something that is completely and totally wrong. I am well aware that this is not recognized in the ancient texts as “sin”, but whether you understand it or not, exerting this type of dominance over another without their complete and informed consent defiles their sacred rights, and defiles your own testimony that you are walking in a “right” path before Spirit.
